BREAST SURGERY
Breast surgery is the most popular of all Cosmetic and Plastic surgeries. Often used to improve the appearance of the breasts or nipples, particular procedures become more popular at various stages of life.
Why do people want Breast Surgery?
Breast Surgery is typically Cosmetic (for aesthetic purposes) or Corrective / Reconstructive.
- People frequently decide to have cosmetic breast surgery because the appearance of their breasts lowers their confidence and self-esteem. Many women find that pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight loss change the appearance of their breasts. Ageing affects the elasticity of the skin and may also cause breasts to droop. Breast enlargement surgery or breast uplift can help to enhance the look of the breasts.
- Corrective breast surgery can greatly enhance the quality of people's lives. Abnormalities in breasts may occur as breasts develop. This is often an inherited condition and includes asymmetry, overly large or small breasts and tuberous (constricted) breasts. Some men develop gynecomastia ('man boobs') which can be a very distressing condition. Additionally, surgery may be used to correct damaged implants or inverted nipples.
- Reconstructive breast surgery is performed after people have had mastectomy surgery.
What breast surgery procedures do Aurora Clinics offer?
Breast surgery procedures can generally be divided into:
- Breast enlargement, uplift or a combination of these.
- Breast reduction (for both women and men).
- Nipple and areola surgery.
- Corrective and reconstructive breast surgery.
Breast enlargement, uplift or reduction
- Breast enlargement - The majority of breast enlargement surgeries are performed on women. Aurora Clinics aims to produce an extremely natural appearance without excessive volume.
- Breast uplift (mastopexy) - The surgeon removes some of the loose skin in the lower part of your breast and the nipple is moved to a higher position. This creates a firmer and more youthful appearance. There are several different types of breast uplift and the best for you will depend on the position of your nipple and how much excess skin you have.
- Breast reduction - This surgery is suitable for people who experience pain or postural problems caused by large breasts, or for those who are self-conscious about their breast size.
- Gynecomastia Surgery - Sometimes surgery is used to reduce male breasts and this is a specialty of Aurora Clinics.
Nipple and areola surgery
- Inverted nipple correction - The procedure is relatively common and can be performed under local anaesthetic using a technique that causes minimal scarring while leading to the best results.
- Nipple and areola surgery - The nipple and the areola vary in size, shape and colour between individuals and are sometimes affected by pregnancy or weight fluctuation. It occurs in both men and women. Surgery can improve the appearance of the nipple area.
Corrective and reconstructive surgery
- Breast capsulectomy - Surgical procedures to remove or release the fibrous capsule that may form around breast implants.
- Implant removal or replacement - People sometimes want to change the appearance of their breasts or have implants removed or replaced with a different size. Surgery may also be carried out if an implant becomes damaged.
- Breast asymmetry - It is normal to have a slight difference in size and shape of the breasts, but in some people this may be more pronounced and cause concern. Surgery can be used to correct the condition involving enlargement or reduction of one breast or a combination of procedures. If the change has been recent or you have a discharge from your nipple we would advise that you see your GP.
- Breast reconstruction surgery - This procedure is carried out to restore the shape of the breast following mastectomy or partial mastectomy. Reconstruction can take place using your own breast tissue or with a breast implant.
- Tuberous breast correction - This is a genetic condition causing an abnormality in breast shape. Generally surgery is performed at the base of the breasts and the best technique for you will depend on the appearance of your breast tissue.
