Vaser Lipo
Liposuction using Ultrasound
Vaser Lipo (the more commonly used term for Vaser Liposuction) is one of the latest techniques for reducing areas of fatty tissue from your body which concern you. It differs from traditional Liposuction in that Vaser (Ultrasound Energy) is used to help break down the fatty tissues, making them easier to remove.
WHAT IS VASER LIPO?
- The Vaser is a specialised machine manufactured by a company based in America.
- Energy is delivered to problem areas of fatty tissue via a special Vaser cannula.
- This imparts ultrasound energy at its tip to the fatty tissue, helping to liquidise and disrupt the fat cell lining.
- The fat contained within the cells is then released and can be removed more easily via a suction technique.
- The advantages of the Vaser Lipo technique are that more cells can be removed at once and your post-operative swelling and bruising should be less noticeable than with traditional Liposuction techniques.
YOUR PROCEDURE
- The procedure is similar to traditional Tumescent Liposuction except from the Vaser energy used to disrupt the fat cells.
- Your surgeon will have a full discussion with you about the Pros and Cons of the treatment and should give you a realistic idea of the results following surgery by showing you before and after pictures of patients they have previously treated.
- Before the operation, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned.
- The operation is usually performed under local anaesthetic, administered via fluid gently instilled into the region.
- Once the skin is completely numb, your surgeon will begin treating the fatty tissue with Vaser energy via small incisions.
- This will liquidise the fat which is then removed via cannula suction.
- Your surgeon will normally remove the fatty tissue from 2-3 access sites to ensure that the area is treated as equally and evenly as possible.
YOUR recovery
- During your recovery, the incision sites may ooze fluid slightly: this is totally normal.
- You will be fitted with a support garment to gently compress the treated area as this eases swelling and bruising, aiding quick recovery.
- In the week following surgery, we would encourage you to perform light activities but avoid any strenuous activity such as going to the gym.
- 1 week following the procedure, you will be reviewed in our Dressings Clinic by our specialist team to check that all remains well.
- If you have any concerns, you can contact us at any point on 0800 328 5743 and will be given advice and a free consultation if necessary.
- Your post-operative photographs will be taken at your appointment 6 weeks following your procedure.
- It is important to remember that some swelling will remain at this stage but this will subside over time.
YOUR RESULTS
- Overall, Vaser Lipo is a very good technique for removing relatively small areas of fatty tissue.
- We are all born with a certain amount of fat cells in each region: when you put weight on, these fat cells swell (you do not actually increase the number of fat cells by putting on weight).
- Through your surgeon removing a number of these fat cells, you are likely to have a permanent reduction in an area.
- It is important to remember that, if you do put on weight again, the remaining fat cells can once again swell.
- It is therefore best to maintain a steady and healthy weight after Vaser Liposuction in order to prevent the areas of excess fat recurring.
